In 2017, 34 solar lamps were installed to light 1.6 kilometers of the cycle path between Vörstetten and Gundelfingen. Approaching cyclists are detected by motion sensors switching on the lights in a domino effect by means of a "swarm control". Also, the brightness of the lights is controlled to achieve the best possible illumination even in a time of limited sunlight. The operating data of all lamps are stored on the Internet daily via a GSM radio modem. This is used for remote maintenance and also allows a statistical evaluation of operating data or motion profiles.

The lighting of the bike path is a great benefit for the cyclists who are very positive about the new facility. The system was designed and built by Uhlmann Solarelectronic as a general contractor.
